چکیده

The correlation coefficient between the two classifications was computed over the 36 segments for each slide. Correlation shows how well the position of lipid in the two classifications match, even though the absolute values of total lipid areas (i.e., manual and automated) differed. Figure 3 shows that more than 50% of the slides had a correlation coefficient greater than 0.8. Thus, we can say that there was a good positional match between the two classifications. A scatter plot of the total lipid area of ACLS vs. MCLS [1] showed that manual classification lipid area was typically greater than automated classification lipid area.

A Semi-Automated Algorithm for Segmentation of the Left Atrial Appendage Landing Zone: Application in Left Atrial Appendage Occlusion Procedures

Background: Mechanical occlusion of the Left atrial appendage (LAA) using a purpose-built device has emerged as an effective prophylactic treatment in patients with atrial fibrillation at risk of stroke and a contraindication for anticoagulation. A crucial step in procedural planning is the choice of the device size. This is currently based on the manual analysis of the “Device Landing Zone” fr...

A Virtual Microscopy System to Scan, Evaluate and Archive Biomarker Enhanced Cervical Cytology Slides

BACKGROUND Although cytological screening for cervical precancers has led to a reduction of cervical cancer incidence worldwide it is a subjective and variable method with low single-test sensitivity. New biomarkers like p16 that specifically highlight abnormal cervical cells can improve cytology performance. Virtual microscopy offers an ideal platform for assisted evaluation and archiving of b...

An Automated MR Image Segmentation System Using Multi-layer Perceptron Neural Network

Background: Brain tissue segmentation for delineation of 3D anatomical structures from magnetic resonance (MR) images can be used for neuro-degenerative disorders, characterizing morphological differences between subjects based on volumetric analysis of gray matter (GM), white matter (WM) and cerebrospinal fluid (CSF), but only if the obtained segmentation results are correct. Due to image arti...

A New Algorithm for Skin Lesion Border Detection in Dermoscopy Images

Background: With advances in medical imaging systems, digital dermoscopy has become one of the major imaging modalities in the analysis of skin lesions. Thus, automated segmentation or border detection has a great impact on the subsequent steps of skin cancer computer-aided diagnosis using demoscopy images. Since dermoscopy images suffer from artifacts such as shading and hair, there is a need ...
